Getting to Know God through Praise and Worship

Praise and worship are other ways to get to know God. Praise is when you openly recognize, celebrate and honor God for all that he has done. Worship is when you exalt God and acknowledge him as your Creator and Father. You humble yourself before him and place him first in your life. It’s easy to confuse the two terms when you have to define them. Don’t get so caught up on the words themselves. It is more imporatant to make sure that you are praising and worshipping God.

Psalm 150:6: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”

What does praise look like? You can shout out openly or silently in your heart and mind words that honor our Father God. Examples may include but are not limited to: “Father, you are such an awesome, kind, loving and great God!” “No one or nothing compares to you in my life!” “You are so majestic and so worthy of my honor and praise!”

Singing, humming and playing musical instruments to Christian hymns or songs are considered praise. Movements may include clapping your hands, jumping around, shouting/dancing, running and lifting your hands. Your praises to God can be given anywhere and at anytime.

John 4:23: “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.

So, what does worship look like? Reading Christian devotionals, studying the Bible, listening to Christian podcasts, and prayer are just some examples of worshipping God. By doing these things, you are letting him know that he is so important to you that you are spending time with him and increasing your knowledge of him. These acts pleases God because you are choosing him. Following God’s teachings by witnessing to others about God’s goodness, sharing the Gospel and serving others who are in need within your community are acts of worship. There are other ways to worship God.

Let’s pray:

Father, I know that you are deserving of my praise and worship. Please show me how and give me the courage to praise and worship you. I desire to show you that you are my life, not just a mere portion of it. I will begin to start praising and worshipping you more.

Thy will be done.

Amen.
